Festival N°6 Super Weird Happening
Things are shaping up nicely for our sixth Super Weird Happening, which, serendipitously will be hosted at Festival N°6. For the past three years the festival has brought a bespoke banquet of music, arts and culture to the picturesque confines of the idiosyncratic Italian-styled North Wales village, Portmeirion – made infamous by the 1967 psychedelic ITV drama, The Prisoner – so we’re incredibly excited to be working with them this year.
Greg Wilson and Kermit Leveridge have drawn together a Super Weird crew of artists, alchemists and astronauts for the sixth Happening, drawing off the energy of the previous five with a few familiar faces, whilst also looking forward by throwing some new ones into the fray.
Exhibiting the diverse array of talent from Super Weird Substance’s first eight releases, live music will come in the form of Blind Arcade who’ll be playing last year’s mixtape and The Super Weird Society featuring the gruff gravitas of The Reverend Cleve Freckleton, the sassy swagger of The Reynolds and of course the manic magic of Kermit Leveridge. Having worked on the releases and Luxxury will be joining DJs Greg Wilson, Derek Kaye, Peza – also appearing with the Society – The Jam MC’s and Organic Gav on the Super Weird controls.
A friend and mentor to Kermit, Howard Marks will be bringing his worldly wisdom to the talks, which will also feature a return from John Higgs, the man responsible for one of SWS’ key inspirations; The KLF: Chaos, Magic and the Band who Burned a Million Pounds. Coincidentally occurring around the same time as the autumn Happenings, Daisy Eris Campbell‘s heroic adaptation of Robert Anton Wilson’s Cosmic Trigger was another huge inspiration, so it’s only fitting that she returns to the talks. Actress, playwright and former Intastella singer, Stella Grundy will be performing an excerpt from her The Rise And Fall Of A Northern Star, whilst spoken word artist JB Barrington will be reciting some of his work, alongside a selection of Kermit’s original poetry.
As with all the previous Happenings, live art will be a key feature of the N°6 Happening so art-coordinator and photographer Elspeth Moore has drawn together some of the same artists that added colour to past Happenings including SLM, Alastair Price, Caroline Johnson and Marcus Hislop, whilst also welcoming newcomers Ani Saunders and Dan Lish.
